Thank you to all for your sacrifice. My Aunt loved us very much as kids because her husband never came home. He was done with his service and working as a civil engineer in 1941, then immediately called back into service, he was a first Lieutenant. For two years, he gave mercy to his enemies, assigned to assist in the building of POW camp Ft. McClellan Alabama, with Rommel's Afrika Corps prisoners as labor, then shipped over with relief troops in November 1944. He had a 102 fever from an inner ear infection, on Christmas in London; he was in the hospital when he was pulled out of bed and sent immediately into action. He served for 6 weeks in the Battle of the Bulge, and was destroyed with his entire unit of engineers on the Ziegfried line February 12, 1945. He is buried at Lorraine Ameican Cemetary. When I asked my Aunt about him as a small child, she would tell the most wonderful stories and almost always cry. During my mother's formative years, he was the man who raised her. Thank you Uncle Samuel McCaskill, 1st Lt. Engineers 90th Division, you went in my place, and in the place of all my Children. All gave some, Some gave All. http://www.abmc.gov/cemeteries/ceme teries/lo.php |
