Hey Carina. I've lived in America now for almost 5 months and it was the best time of my life. The people and the culture is completely different than in germany and it might be hard at the beginning but it is really easy to adjust. To live in america doesn't just mean to go everywhere and see everything. It also means to hang out a lot with friends. And I'll tell you now, at the beginning when you'll come it wil be kind of exhausting for you. Everyone is really really nice to you but you hav fisrt to select your real friends from the ones who just wanna be friends with the 'german' girl. But that's not the point. After you got into this everything it's pretty cool. In america teenager are allowed to have a drivers licence with 15 and a half. Ok actually they have a permit and are not allowed to drive people around unntil they're 18 but nobody cares about that. So your friends will take you too into places. Places like malls, movie theatres and other stands :) Believe me it's hecka fun !! Exept of that San Franciso and the whole bay area is a gorgeous place. In SF there is so many places that are worth to see because there is no other place like this on earth. The twin peakes, pier 39, California road, Union square, China town... And it's completely diffrent to be there as a tourist and as someone who actually lives there. Also good to see is the Yosemite National Park and The Sequoia Nationalpark. You'll see things that are unqique for the whole world. You'll love it but don't think it will be alway easy. There will be hard times especially christmas is going to be rough. But don't worry it'll make you stronger afterwards. I hope I was able to help you. i added some pictures... Julia

| Hi! I have lived in the U.S. my entire life. Growing up the one thing I have always loved about America is the collective culture. You definitely need to explore any markets that are in the area. That is where most likely you will encounter a wide range of cultures. People selling items they may seem weird to you or I, but are really apart of their everyday life. Another thing you must experience is the music. There is music everywhere in America, and it is as diverse as the people. I love all kinds of music, and I discover new kinds of music all the time from different people. You should really get involved in a high school. The media portrays American schools as sports focused, which is not wrong, but there is so much more offered at a high school. There is also math team, speech team, theatre, Choir, and Band. The people you meet in these activities are some of the greatest people you will meet in school. Overall you should just explore America and see all the diversity, beauty, and adventure it has to offer. | |

There are many, many things to do in America. I've
lived in the U.S. my entire life, and there's
always something to do!! School is an important part of life in America- homework and after-school activities are important!! There's so many activities to get involved in at school- there's a lot of sports, but I take part in theatre at my school. There's also a concert band, choir, a school newspaper, art club, speech team, and lots more! There's something for everybody! Another thing that I love about living the the US is the diversity of the entire country. The East Coast is so different from the West Coast, which is different from the South, which is different from the Mid-West. Road trips are a really fun thing to do and something that me and my family do often. We've driven almost everywhere, and we never run out of things to do once we get there. We go and see baseball games, go visit zoos and museums that are unique to the city that we're in. There's National Parks, which are a great way to see nature. I love living in the States and I think that it'd be a great experience for Carina to, too!!!

| when in America you must stop at the old stainless steel diner where you can order an old fashioned breakfast of bacon, eggs, and potatoes. These diners have been around for 100 years and are part of our heritage. | |

| Visit Williamsburg, Virginia. It's an amazing, huge, open air history museum. It's a whole town teaching you the beginnings of America. | |

That's one of my favorite pictures of Las vegas.
There are a lot of things to see and i liked
especially the hotels with themes like Paris and
others. The only thing that bothered me was that
it's way too hot there, it's unbearable.

| Go to a county fair. All the 4-H kids are there, showing their animals and projects from the year. It's very competitive but it is also a time, right before school starts, where everyone gets to hang out together and enjoy the end of summer. There are all types of animal shows, from show chickens to rodeo to llamas and steers. There are carnival rides and sketchy American fair food. There is country music and dancing. There are little kids falling asleep in the bleachers while their older siblings try to win belt buckles in the ring. County fairs are one way to see Americana at its best. | |

| Arizona isn't just good for the Grand Canyon- check out the small hippie towns that abound there too. Like Bisbee, a mountainous mining town that has attracted interesting and amusing people for decades. | |

| Washington DC is our national capital and a nice place to get to know the country. Sit at the great big feet of Abraham Lincoln and take a look at the history surrounding the place. | |

| Portland Oregon is home to Moltnoma Falls- one of the longest falling waterfalls in the United States and a beautiful hike to the top with a great view! While you're in Portland you can visit Voodoo Donuts- a popular and indipendant donut shop with some very creative sweets, or drive out to the coast and visit Blue Heron and Tillamook- two very tasty cheese production houses in Tillamook county. | |

Take a road trip. I as an American have always wanted to do this. America is spacious, there is wide open land for miles upon miles. You can drive for hours and not see another soul in the West. I think this is one of the most surreal things one can experience; the land has a way of making you feel so small. When you look out across the untouched wild of America you become aware of the fact that this land has been here long before you and will there long after you are gone. When you climb to a vantage point and can see only mountains, valleys, and forests for miles on end it is one of the most amazing feelings in the world; I've come to miss it very much living in Germany.

My suggestion for you to do in America is to talk as much and to many different people as you can. You will get to know the american people as very friendly, open minded and overwhelming. Through talking you will get to know this big beautiful country in a way you wouldn't be able by just travelling and looking at stuff. Just have a good time and find some friends for lifetime, experience the american schoolsystem which is different but interesting! You have to FEEL america- and it will always be in your heart!

High School is all about teams. Swim team, track team, volleyball team, football team, and, in this case, a speech team. You can join a team easily but you really have to dedicate yourself to become part of it. Maybe you'll have to do things that are harder than anything you did before, maybe it'll be hard to stick out, and maybe you'll feel insecure. But the hard work pays of. You´ll find friends, learn something cool and new ,and you will enjoy the high school spirit, while you're giving everything you got for your school. No matter wether you're in a pool, in front of judges, on a track or on a field.

So things to do in America. Let's start with
school. The life at school is basically like the
one you can watch in movies. It is a need to join
a club or a sport team. It's a good opportunity to
make friends and to hang out with them. If you
join a sport team, the people are usually very
interested in sports and so they come and support
their school. The schools have a very big school
spirit and to be a part of it is a new experience.
It's amazing how the students support their school
and how many activities they organize to keep the
spirit. And to hang out with friends and do a lot
of crazy stuff are things you can't miss here in
America! You get the chance to learn about the
american culture and you maybe get the chance to
see an american wedding like the picture is
showing. And as well the american traditions and
holidays like Halloween or Thanksgiving. These are
holidays we don't celebrate in Germany, so it's
very cool to see how the celebrate it. Another
point is the different cultures. You can share
your experience and your culture with your friends
and your family. You get to know how a typical
american family lives, what they do and they eat.
So I really glad that I decided to go to america
because this is a great experience and I love it!

HI Carina DO you recognize? Last school year we talked about natinoalparks in our english lessons. In America there are a lot of nationalparks and they´re all different. Each of them shows an other part of beautiful nature. In these nationalparks people protect the inlimitable nature and animals of their country. These parks and of course all of American´s landscapes are well worth seeing. Love Katha. :)
